When Teenage Meets Old Age

The Beeb love throwing disparate groups together. Old and young, rich and poor, black and white, drunk and sober, big cooks and little cooks…they’re a bit like a small child creating toxic mixtures in the bathroom out of dog shampoo, Ajax and cough syrup (then calling it perfume).

In keeping with this trend, their latest experiment sees four fairly self-centred teenagers: (Jace, Zoe, Estenita and Johnny) sent to work as care assistants in a Cornish retirement complex in order to gain an understanding of the experiences of older people.

Seconds into his first shift, St Albans native Johnny is told he ‘looks a bit like Prince William’ by a flirtatious 99 year old, who he then has to help into the shower and sponge her arm flaps while the camera gleefully captures his horrified reaction.

Presumably he was under the impression he’d signed up to chat to the old dears over a cup of tea. Wrinkly bits clearly weren’t on his agenda. ..
